A healthy donation from a local couple is helping provide a hearty meal to the homeless in Rialto.

Elder Alan Dyer and Sister June Dyer, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Redlands Stake, donated $5,500 to Rialto United Methodist Church to continue its weekly Feed the Homeless meal program.

“Feeding the homeless and needy has been an ongoing church service project for more than eight years now,” said Rialto United Methodist Church Rev. Jose Vindel.

Each Wednesday, interfaith church volunteers and members of the Rialto Evening Kiwanis Club, prepare and serve meals to dozens. Food supplies are provided by the Rialto Stake Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at no cost to Rialto United Methodist Church.

“It is truly a blessing to partner with Rev. Vindel and the Rialto and Fontana Stake LDS Church to render spiritual service to feed the homeless,” Alan said. “As the Savior would say ,“when you are engaged in service to others, you are in service to your God.”

The weekly meal program runs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m Wednesdays. A pantry service program is also available at 10 a.m. on Fridays at Rialto United Methodist Church, 1230 N. Lilac Ave.
