Hundreds gathered Sunday for a memorial motorcycle ride in Loma Linda to pay tribute to the thousands who lost their lives Sept. 11, 2001.

Marking the 15th anniversary of 9/11, the ride led to a memorial ceremony at the Loma Linda Fire Department, where a six-foot section of an I-beam from one of the World Trade Center twin towers rests.

The monument housing the steel beam was dedicated Sept. 11, 2012.

Event sponsors included Quaid Harley-Davidson and Loma Linda and Colton Fire Departments. A barbecue held at the American Legion Post 422 in Rialto was held immediately after the ceremony.

Participation in the motorcycle ride was free, although donations were encouraged to benefit Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital and Warrior Build Foundation.
