Celebratory hugs and handshakes went around Rialto High School as three student-athletes prepared to take the next big step in higher education.
Rialto High School softball players Tianna Thomas, Raylene Estrada and Gabby Gomez signed their letters of intent April 13 to attend the schools of Prairie View A&M, The University of the Pacific, and Blinn College respectively. With the support of San Bernardino County Superintendent, Ted Alejandre, RHS Principal, Arnie Ayala, Athletic Director, Kevin Gilbreth, Head Coach, Joe Baca and Assistant Coach, Mary Aparicio, the college bound student-athletes, along with their “tremendous achievements in academics and athletics” were celebrated in grand fashion, district officials said in a news release.
“The one variable that makes all the difference in the world is self determination and effort, and you’ve shown that,” Avila said to the students during the event. “Congratulations and I wish you the best in all future endeavors.”
