Nearly two dozen students from Rialto unified’s District Student Advisory Counsel were offered some inspirational words from three local women leaders in celebration of International Women’s Day March 8.

Guest speakers this year included Gloria Macias Harrison, former and first Latina President of Crafton Hills College-turned San Bernardino Community College Board Vice President and Newspaper Publisher, Mary Parks, former Emmy award-winning broadcast network television reporter (NBC and CBS) turned PBS Host of the American Spirit, and former SANBAG and Caltrans executive leader-turned Rialto Mayor Deborah Robertson.

“Our district is extremely thankful that these three accomplished women took time out of their busy schedules to share their life’s experiences with our 24 DSAC student-leaders,” said Syeda Jafri, spokeswoman for the district.

“The messages were not only informational but some students were awe-struck, at not only their impressive careers, but how hard they worked to reach that level of success. We were overjoyed that our district had the good fortune to kick-off March 8, International Day of the Woman, with such positive role-models, who fill leadership roles in their communities.”
