Peggy Wheeler, the director of Alternative Education/Adult Education and ROP, was honored as one of the outstanding administrators, exhibiting excellence in secondary Home Economics Careers and Technology Education in the state.

She was recognized at the 29th annual Home Economics Leadership and Management Conference held in June in Garden Grove.

Wheeler, a 34-year veteran at the district, has been instrumental in collaborating with staff to secure numerous grants for a soon-to-open state-of-the-art Culinary Arts Program at RUSD.

The program, she says, “will provide outstanding opportunities for students.”

Classes for the culinary program are scheduled to begin in the 2014-2015 school year.

Wheeler said she was humbled to have received the recognition.

“Everything I have ever done in my career at the Rialto Unified School District has been about student achievement and to assist staff to help our students excel,” said Wheeler in a news release.

The RUSD Board of Education will formally honor Wheeler for her efforts during its upcoming meeting July 16.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and is held at the Dr. Kazalunas Education Center, 182 E. Walnut Avenue.
