The Rialto Community Players is presenting the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s production “Run for Your Wife,” beginning this Saturday, Sept. 9. Set in London, “Caught in the Net” finds the bigamist taxi driver John Smith successfully keeping his two families apart. Things quickly turn awry for him when his two children, a teenage girl from one family and a teenage boy from the other, meet online and are anxious to meet one another because of their commonalities between their dads – same last name with same profession. John tries desperately to foil their meeting and the chance for his two children to fall in love. As you can imagine his situation is engulfed in hilarity as things spiral out of control.

“Caught in the Net,” directed by Candy Cane, is the RCP’s second production this season, following the musical “Grease.” According to Rialto Community Players Board Vice President Sandra Cordasco, two other comedies, a musical and mystery courtroom drama will be presented during the season.

“We have come to be known as the ‘little jewel box of a theater’ in the Inland Empire, and people come from as far as San Luis Obispo to see our productions,” Cordasco revealed. “People feel like they’re coming home when they come to our theater, there’s a familiarity, and the way we connect with the audience makes them feel cared for and want to come back again.”

Considered the official theater of the city, RCP was founded by Rialto resident Sandy Courtney in 1982 at the request of former Parks and Recreation Director Jack Simonson at the Carl Johnson Community Center gym. With no financing, Courtney delivered the first show in 1982, a melodrama. It was given a permanent home in 1990 at the brand new Sandra R. Courtney Community Theatre.

“We bring positive representation to our city, and it’s fun,” said Cordasco, also a Rialto resident. “It’s not more expensive than the movies and you will feel a part of something.”

“Caught in the Net” will run for three weekends, Sept. 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, and 24. Friday and Saturday night shows begin at 8 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Cast members: Andrew Flory, Emma Kuhn, Tiffany Shampine, Mia Mercado, Cameron Harris, Headley Duncan and Jim Ernsberger.
