Dozens of ‘young Olympians’ brought home gold after participating in Mansion Memories’ Mansion Munchkins summer games at the Burrage Mansion in Redlands.

The sun-filled sold-out event was the first of its kind for the nonprofit organization and not only served as a day for parents to play outdoors with their little ones, but to also raise funds for Mansion Memories’ Magical Days, an event planned as “a day away from reality” for children who have experienced life-altering circumstances such as illness, a family member’s death and poverty.

“Without the help of the public, we wouldn’t be able to put on events like these that help bring so much joy to children,” said Dianna Lawson, executive director of Mansion Memories.

Highlights of the summer games included opening ceremonies, a javelin throw, hoop jump, bowling and an obstacle course. Children received medals after completing each event.

And to finish their wins, youngsters were treated to water games including sliding and splashing around in mini bounce-house-style pools.

The organization is currently accepting nominations for its upcoming Magical Days event Sept. 17.
