August 25 & 26 – the Redlands Footlighters presents Mom’s Gift at 1810 Barton Road, Redlands at 8:00 p.m. This a comedy with a heart about a Mom who has passed but must accomplish a task to earn her angel wings. Now – January 7, 2018 – the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts presents New Native: Toward New Mythologies at the Jacobs Education Gallery Center featuring more than 50 works by eleven indigenous artists. According to curator and artist Tony Abeyta (Navajo), “We are exploring ways that traditional forms and practices, iconography and ancestral mythologies influence the expression of contemporary Native artists’ modernity, technology and social priorities.”

Featured artists (and tribal affiliations) include: Christi Belcourt (Metis), Gerald Clarke, Jr. (Cahuilla), Craig George (Navajo – Dine), Steven Paul Judd (Kiowa/ Choctaw), Monty Little (Dine), Cannupa Hanska Luger (Arikara/Hidatsa/Mandan/Lakota), Kent Monkman (Cree), Cara Romero (Chemehuevi), Diego Romero (Cochiti Pueblo), and Preston Singletary (Tlingit). Now – September 16, 2017 – professional artist Alfonso Martinez Mendez will hold ongoing Saturday Morning Drawing Classes at the Garcia Center for the Arts, 536 West 11th Street, San Bernardino from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. No experience necessary. Thursday, August 31 – Rep. Pete Aguilar will hold a Community Grants Workshop at the San Bernardino Community College District Office, 114 S. Del Rosa Drive from 9:00 a.m. to noon. This workshop is intended to connect Inland Empire organizations with federal agencies to learn about federal grant opportunities. Starting Monday, September 11 – the City of Redlands will offer Dog Obedience Classes at the Redlands Community Center, 111 W. Lugonia Ave, From 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. In this nine class series owners will learn to teach their dogs to sit, heel, stand and more while earning loving respect from their dogs. Dogs must be at least six months old and have a current city/county dog license. City of Redlands residency is not required. Wednesday, September 13 – Children’s Network Mentoring Taskforce and San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health present Youth Mental Health First Aid at Children’s Network, 825 E. Hospitality Ln., San Bernardino Conference Room B/C from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This public event will teach participants the signs of addiction and mental illnesses, a five- step action plan to assess a situation and provide assistance, the impact of mental and substance use disorders, local resources and where to turn for assistance.
