Oh Baby Day! Celebrate youngsters born at Redlands Community Hospital
2 min readFamilies with children born at Redlands Community Hospital between Jan. 1, 2013 and June 2, 2017 are invited to celebrate Oh Baby Day Saturday at the hospital.
The annual event brings hundreds to celebrate family and capture the moment in a family group photo with hospital staff. The photo will be canvassed and displayed in RCH’s “Hall of History.” Families will receive a special commemorative photo to celebrate their place of birth.
This year’s event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the hospital campus at 350 Terracina Blvd. in Redlands.
“This is one of our favorite events,” said Jim Holmes, CEO of Redlands Community Hospital, in a news release.
“We love to reconnect with the children who were born at our hospital and see how much they’ve grown.”
Festivities for the day will include free family-friendly activities, food trucks, a petting zoo and train rides.
The event will also mark the anniversary of the RCH’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), a special nursery that was opened for babies who are born prematurely or have other medical problems requiring special needs.
Admission to Oh Baby Day is free.
Families with children born between Jan. 1, 2013 and June 2, 2017 interested in attending are asked to register for the event on Eventbrite.
Family photographs are scheduled by year born and will be taking promptly at the following times:
2013 — 11:30 a.m.
2014 — 12:30 p.m.
2015 — 1p.m.
2016 — 1:30 p.m.
2017 — 1:45 p.m.
Baby Day began May 12, 1929 two months after Redlands Community Hospital opened along Terracina Blvd., organizers said. Those who were not able to attend the hospital’s open house celebration, visited on the first Hospital Day. A group photograph of mothers and their babies born at the hospital was taken. The following year, Hospital Day was renamed Baby Day and Mother’s Tea, then continued as the traditional Baby Day through the mid 1950s until it became difficult to have all mothers and children all in one photo, organizers said.
Baby Day was reinstated again for a few years in the 1990s, but with more than 2,400 babies born annually at RCH, taking photos became difficult, organizers said.
Baby Day is now celebrated every five years and averages about 100-200 people per year celebrated.
