SB Public Library receives seven railroad books from Santa Fe Railway Historical & Modeling Society

2 min read

The San Bernardino Public Library (SBPL) has received a donation of seven railroad books from the Santa Fe Railway Historical & Modeling Society (SFRHMS) that it will utilize in the Feldheym Central Library’s California Room.

The California Room specializes in materials that are significant to the history of the City of San Bernardino and the County of San Bernardino. These research materials are for in-library use only.

“It is our goal to provide relevant books that we have published to public libraries and railroad preservation organizations found along the former Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway lines that are now part of Fort Worth-based BNSF Railway,” said Mike Martin, Director Emeritus of SFRHMS. “San Bernardino is located along Santa Fe Railway’s former mainline between California and all points east. It is our hope that patrons of the library will enjoy these volumes for many years to come.”

Among the titles donated:

· “Business and Special Purpose Cars”

· “Stan Kistler’s Santa Fe Railway in Black & White”

· “Santa Fe Los Angeles Division”

· “Trademarks of the Santa Fe Railroad and Peripheral Subjects”

· “Mechanical Refrigerator Cars”

· “Watching the Trains Go By”

· “Santa Fe to the Bay”

“We would like to thank the SFRHMS very much for their donation for readers who enjoy railroads, especially since Santa Fe and railroads in general have played such a significant role in the economy and history of the City of San Bernardino and the San Bernardino Valley,” said SBPL Library Director Ed Erjavek.

The California Room days and hours of operation are Tuesdays from 12 to 4 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays 1 to 4 p.m. Information is available at the library’s website at www.sbpl.org or at 909.381.8208.
